The Dean of Students Office is committed to working with you and challenging you on this wonderful journey to take full advantage of the opportunities you will find at this great institution.

We are dedicated to meeting the needs of all students. We have outstanding faculty and a caring staff, a beautiful campus and an atmosphere conducive to your academic goals. We encourage you to join one or more of our 150 student organizations. All of them offer opportunities for leadership development, academic support, networking, personal growth and community service. Our campus leaders are involved in Student Government, Greek Life, Student Orientation Staff, University Program Council, Recreational Sports and the list goes on.

We hope that you will walk the campus, ask questions, meet faculty and staff and learn all you can about your University. Study hard, make new friends, get involved and have fun. These are the best of times for you. We are here to help in any way we can. We hope you reach all of your goals and realize all your dreams.

  • Dear Fellow Ragin Cajuns,

Welcome to the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.  We are very excited that you are now a part of the Ragin’ Cajun family.  The time that you spend at the University is short and we hope that you enjoy every opportunity available.

The Student Government Association is just one of many organizations dedicated to enhancing the livelihood of the campus and surrounding Lafayette community. SGA is comprised of members from every college to represent your voice. We hold true to our mission for SGA which reads: To serve the student body of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette by representing students through a steadfast commitment to providing an environment conducive for the pursuit of student engagement; by ensuring opportunities for leadership development; and by engaging in student-driven initiatives in collaboration with university, city, and state officials in order to enrich the quality of student life and develop a unified Ragin’ Cajun community.

Besides SGA, there are a variety of other means to get involved within an organization.  Becoming involved is the gateway to finding information out about campus events and activities, meeting new individuals, and to developing a deeper appreciation for UL Lafayette and being a Ragin’ Cajun.  By serving in any role within an organization, you are not only working for the betterment of the organization, but you are improving the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and yourself.  The best way to enhance your college experience is not only through a focus on your studies, but to also become involved in some manner on campus with an organization that best fits you.  Whether you find your place in an organization that promotes school pride, engages in social activities, focuses on professional development or participates in charity or advocacy work, there is something out there for each and every student.

Becoming a part of your University is important; yet finding a healthy balance is necessary between academics and extracurricular activities.  Remember we are all students first and as a group of students who can easily recall being in your position a few years ago, we are now more than ever aware of the importance of managing your time wisely.  Be a student who is dedicated to studies and is also able to enjoy everything college has to offer.  UL Lafayette has many resources and we encourage you to use all that are available to you.  If you ever have any questions, please come by our office in Lafayette Hall, Office 218.  We have an open door policy and would love to meet you.  You can also feel free to call us at (337) 482-2742 or email us at sga@louisiana.edu.  Lastly, be sure to visit our website at www.ulsga.com where you can find up to date information about the students representing you and what we are currently working on.
